Northeastern Nitro make big moves for women’s football in New York State

Round Rock, Texas – The IWFL is pleased to announce it has awarded a new team membership to Melissa Messemer of Schenectady, NY. She and Northeastern Nitro team owners Amy Manfred and Carley Pesente recently moved the team from Connecticut to New York to offer women in that region an opportunity to play football. Their goal is to provide high quality football instruction and represent New York State in regional and international level IWFL competition.

“Melissa has been involved with women’s football for the better part of a decade and knows what it takes to create success,” said Kezia Disney, IWFL Chief Operating Officer, “combine her experience with that of the Nitro team owners and their new head coach and you have exactly what prospective players want, a stable and successful team.”

After completing their start up season (spring 2011) in another league the Northeastern Nitro will make the jump to IWFL competition this spring. The Nitro is based in Schenectady, New York and will compete against teams from the Northeastern United States and Montreal, Canada with the goal of earning a trip to Round Rock, Texas next summer for the IWFL Championships.

"We are eager to hit the ground running in the Capital District.  We feel that this is a talent rich area that can put a very strong product on the field. We also look forward to contributing as a positive community activity during these difficult times for this area following Tropical Storms Irene and Lee,” stated Melissa Messemer.
